DC Air Pump

DC Air Pump

DC Air Pump

(OP)
Hi,
I'm looking for a DC pump that can maintain a flow of 140 [l/min] with a pressure of at least 55[mbar]. It must be a DC pump. Also it must be as light weight as possible.

Thanks.

RE: DC Air Pump

You are asking a lot from a 12V DC system as a compressor to supply your requirements would have to be 2 or 3 stage and 5 to 6 HP.  This is a very heavy load, continuous, for the average 12V DC system.
Compressors in this range are usually driven by a gasoline engine, diesel engine, or AC motors.

What is the intended use for the air?

If your can use a gas or diesel powered compressor there are numerous Scuba Diving portable compressors that will do the job.

RE: DC Air Pump

He just said DC, but did not specify a voltage.  He could do this with off the shelf 90VDC or 180VDC motors.

RE: DC Air Pump

Missed that one, there is a group in California that is pneumatics instead of hydraulics for the low rider modifications.  I just saw an episode that featured the pneumatic based modifications.  It still carried that overhead of a large battery pack to get the high voltage needed. The large battery packs aren't light even with the new battery types.  the only thing is that they don't spill acid.
If I remember correctly they are using a compressor and a booster.  Again still trying to remember which channel, I think it was the Discovery Channel.

As for the voltage, I was thinking more of 48V than 90V. Can you remember what company it is in California or must I make these modifications myself ? There is still a question of weight of this pump.
10xs again.

RE: DC Air Pump

The show (Automaniac)  is coming on tomorrow, Sept. 14 on the History Channel.
They are selling DVD of the show

Here are some air compressor suppliers.  I haven’t seen any that will get your pressure without a booster or intensifier.   You might note they have a limited duty cycle.
Another avenue would be to look in a lowrider publication for information on air suspension.
