Moisture in Switchgear

Moisture in Switchgear

Moisture in Switchgear

(OP)
Hi Everyone

We are facing a problem of moisture occurance in 33kV air insulated switchgear in the cable compartment. Is it ok to leave silica gel bag in the compartment to absorb moisture.
Thanks to answer the question.

Cheers

RE: Moisture in Switchgear

Condensation/moisture forming in cable compartment is not O.K. It may lead to ground faults. Is the SWGR room air conditioned  / ventilated ? We experienced the similar problem.
Causes for moisture if it is a air conditioned room:
1. Air leaks from control cables entry- Arrest with foam seals
2. Negative pressure in the room - Adjust air return dampers.

Silica gel is not a solution for high moisture codensation. Instead space heaters are more preferrable. But I haven't seen any space heater in cable compartments of MV/HV switchgear.

RE: Moisture in Switchgear

silica gel would only work in a totally sealed environment.  Like you toss one into a bag before sealing it.  Not good for solving an environment problem.
