individual wastewater treatment
individual wastewater treatment
(OP)
most typically we install gravelless drainfield to treat individual homes. this home inparticular can not support a drain field...the soil is clay and will not allow permeation. an individual lagoon is very expensive...what other alternatives are there to avoid high cost and effectively treat this home?

I don't like mounds, they leak, require alot of fill material to be hauled to the site. etc.
> septic tank > aerobic Treatment Unit> Pump tank> then dispose using subsurface drip irrigation.
Drip is installed about six inches in the ground. It is spaced about 2' on center with emitters spaced two foot on center. The emitters flow rates can vary depending on the application. The tubing is set up in zones that are dosed with a computerized timer.
I've designed dozen of these sytems and they are the ticket for difficult soils.

or do a Google search for "above ground septic systems".

National Small Flows Clearinghouse has some good refs.
Mound systems have some limitations
Sand filters (open and buried) option depending on variety of constraints
Good luck
RE: individual wastewater treatment
depending on the size of your home and your neighbours, this may be a solution

Power consumption is proportional to sewage flow. EPA says DESIGN FOR 100 GAL / PERSON / DAY AND THAT'S FINE BUT AVERAGE WATER CONSUMPTION IN N. AMER. IS ABOUT 37.5 GAL / PERSON / DAY. SO, YOU MAY ONLY PROCESS ABOUT 100 - 150 GAL / DAY. POWER AND OTHER OPERATING COSTS ARE ESTIMATED AT $60. / MO. THIS COMPARES FAVORABLY WITH SEWER BILLS IN MANY AREAS.
