Changing Layers

Changing Layers

Changing Layers

(OP)
I've recently upgraded from ACad 2002 to 2006. In previous (post R14) versions, to change a layer you could select the items you wanted to change, go to the layer control box and select your new layer you want the items to become. Easy!

This version, you select the items, go to the layer control box and all that you do is change the current layer, i.e. the items stay on the original layer.
The only way to change an item's layer is to highlight it and use the properties command, which is time consuming, annoying and wants to make you re-install good one 2002.

Any ideas?

RE: Changing Layers

I assume when you say the layer control box you mean the
ACAD...LAYERS toolbar?
This is the layer toolbar that I use. When i select an object the layer toolbar changes from the current layer to display the layer of the object selected (multiple objects on different layers and the layer toolbar is blank). Changing the layer via the LAYERS toolbar does indeed change the layer of the selected object.
Express tools also has some object & layer manipulation tools.
You may have to do a reinstall with the REPAIR option.

RE: Changing Layers

what is the value of your PICKFIRST variable ?

RE: Changing Layers

Hendie, You may have found it. If i set my PICKFIRST to 0 then it acts as kander has suggested.
