Swage macro for tubing??

Swage macro for tubing??

Swage macro for tubing??

(OP)
Is there a macro out there to create a swaged hole on my tube model?
All im doing right now is just drilling a hole and then labeling it as a 'swaged hole' on my drawings.  :(

thx,
pj

RE: Swage macro for tubing??

Try recording a macro yourself or search the FAQ on websites that list that type of information.

RE: Swage macro for tubing??

Are you talking about something like the tube on the left:

Don't know anything about a macro, but a pallette feature is the way I do it.  I only have one for square tubing; I tried one for round tubing, but I couldn't get it to look right.  I didn't do all of the complex curvature, it is more like a countersunk hole.

Yeah, similar to that hole, smcadman.
Really what im after is a hole that is drilled thru one side of the tube then essentially the machinist inserts a screwdriver (or rod) and presses it down one side. Thus creating a raised edge one one side, and a depression on the other.  We to this for inserting a throttle cable down and inside the tube. (picture a cable in a lawnmower handle).
I'll locate and try that pallette feature...

RE: Swage macro for tubing??

The deform worked.  It is easy to insert a point on square tubing, and using the point option of the deform tool.

For round tube it takes a little more doing.  After making the hole, offset a plane to the outside of the tube, then insert a point.  Pick the temporary axis of the hole for the deform direction.

This is only for 1 side though, you will have to repeat them steps for the opposite side.
For 1 or 2 holes this works great, but it's not as easy as drag-n-drop.

Do a search in SW for "deform Surface push"; it discusses using a "customizable pre-built tool body, such as a polygon or sphere", but I can't find where they are.

I was able to create an indent, but for some reason it only pushed in the one surface of the tube.  I think i spent most of the day yesterday trying to tweak it. lol
Anyway, hopefully sw2006 will offer more options.

I wish i knew how to make a macro that would just ask the user to select a hole, then choose which style swage or indent to use.
