RE: mold design

There is an add-in called MoldWorks that was designed for use with SolidWorks. I have not used it but know a few people who do. They feel that it is comprehensive and easy to use.

RE: mold design

MoldWorks runs within SolidWorks.  SolidWorks is the 3D design package, while MoldWorks is the optimization package for insjection design.

It allows you to specify injection pressure and temperature, size your sprue-tree, find the proper location of ejector ports, comes with a huge material library, ect.  It is a very comprehensive package, and coupled with SolidWorks, makes for a very powerful tool.

RE: mold design

Even without Moldworks, SolidWorks works very well in the design of Molded parts and tooling.  You can take in to account for shrinkage, place knockouts, gates, draft, allkinds of stuff right out of the box... moldworks, make it much simpler to get the job done though!
