Oxygen vents

Oxygen vents

Oxygen vents

(OP)
Hi All,

I'm looking for information regarding safety requirements for oxyegn vents. Is there any code that regulates vents spacing?

We must opearte the ASU (during 2 mouth aprox.) venting all oxygen production. The location of the ASU is closed to a refinery and petrochemical area. which is the best practice to ensure that the oxygen vent is done in a safe manner?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

RE: Oxygen vents

It's an interesting question. And I have 2 "answers" on your question.

1st.: I guess your ASU allready has an Oxygen vent in the system. An ASU is equiped with this. And I think this vent is build according to the standard rules.

2nd.: I don't know what the rules are for venting, but I'm pretty sure that there are rules. Maybe you can check with EIGA (eiga.org) (or perhaps the USA sister organisation of EIGA)
I think the rules give numbers for the height of the vent, the diameter, etc.

Since GOX mixes very easy with the air, I don't think you have to expect problems while venting.
In our plant we have several GOX vent's (low pressure as mid-pressure en high pressure as well) and never had problems during venting.

Good luck,
and if you have found some rules, can you please let me know? It's allways interesting to know.

RE: Oxygen vents

"Vent to a safe location."  Have you considered opening an "oxygen bar?"  I think we could make some money on the side. :p
