How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

(OP)
I was just wondering how much are your paying per litre for petrol?
What are the different prices from country to country taking government tax's?
Irelands €1.12/litre but its expected to go to €1.30 this Monday.
What's yours.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

$3.19 in the midwest of the USA.  Don't know the conversion to pounds to compare.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

Filled up on the way home £0.93 / litre or 1.36 Euro, 1.71 USD. It seems to be going up daily.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

JAE that is £1.73 a gallon or £0.38 /litre.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

About $3 a gallon here in SW USA. I suppose a high taxation of gasoline has a long-range benefit of discouraging wastage of   gasoline (such as Ford F350 with the V-12 gasoline engine), but it is a regressive tax in most cases.
I do enjoy riding my bike to work - 34 miles roundtrip. I probably spend just as much in extra food and bicycle-related equipment, but it gives me such good exercise.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

The price is around $5 per gall. in GA, USA

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

Thanks ajack1 - my price sounds real cheap compared to Georgia USA but much higher than in Ireland.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

$2.89/gal Friendswood Texas USA (near Houston), but most of the Houston area is running about $3.10. Atlanta will come down in the next few days as the piplines come on and the refineries come back online.

-The future's so bright I gotta wear shades!

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

Rs47.30 /litre in Bangalore. Is expected to raise by Rs3 from Monday.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

JAE I think you will find you are paying much less than in Ireland, unless you are paying $3.19/ litre, 80% of the price of fuel in the UK is tax. The prices look a bit misleading as some are quoting litres, some gallons and then euros, pounds and dollars.

1 UK gallon = 4.55 litres, I believe an American gallon is about 4 litres, but I am not sure.

Todays prices are; -

£1 = $1.84
£1 = 1.46 euro
1 euro = $1.25

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

Teesside, north-east England (but the south to a native of newcastle!): forecourt prices currently between £0.92/litre and £0.96/litre.

I am consciously driving with a lighter right foot these days. I've gotten from about 33mpg to about 40mpg according to the display in the car, and that's supported by the better mileage per tank I'm getting. I can't afford to drive like a young'un these days!!

One day my ship will come in.
But with my luck, I'll be at the airport!

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

arunmrao,

We Delhi people have luxary to buy petrol at INR 40.80 per litre. In poorer states, cost is still higher. Perhaps the logic is to deter the poor from wasting their money on something like petrol.

Ciao.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

Gasoline jumped from $2.98/gal to $3.19 yesterday. Maybe it is time to buy a motorcycle.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

2
Structr: Maybe that is why there are so many motorcycles in europe?
So we have approx:

Ireland:approx $6.50/gal
UK:approx $6.84/gal
Canada:approx $3.90/gal
USA:approx $3/gal
India: approx $4/gal
Sweden: $7.10/gal
Germany: $6.92/gal
Switzerland and Spain: $5.08/gal
Denmark: $7.40/gal

I have converted to American dollars per American gallon.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

Flamby and Arunmrao,

It is Rs. 47.30/liter(0.85euro) in Hyderabad if it is Speed. The normal one is about 44.5/liter (0.80Euro). With the hike, it will be Rs.50/-. The actual price, with all the traffic jams and worst traffic practices, my calculation shows it about Rs 55/already(1 euro/liter). I think Delhi and Bangalore are a bit better in this regard.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

quark,
Iremember for my first car for RS 100 I could fill 14 litres of petrol and today for the same amount I get 2.18 litres!!

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

The price per gallon is really irrelevant if you take your fuel consumption into account and also the tax that is added to the petrol (gas). In the UK we pay a high pecentage of tax in the price per gallon but we don't generally pay a toll for travelling on roads (with the exception of one new motorway in the midlands). In France, however, they pay a toll for travelling on motorways. This adds to the price per mile travelled. Simailarly cars with a high mpg will pay less per mile travelled. You just can't go on the headline figure.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

In Autralia it is about $A1.25 per litre, which is about $4 per US gallon.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

That is true corus, but we also pay road tax in England £165 pa, do other countries have the same and if so how much?

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

We in India pay a life time road tax at the time of purchase of a new car. This is transferable within the same state, but if you move to another state,a fresh life time tax will have to be paid.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

It is your choice weather you drive a Hummer or an econocar.

It is not your choice what the price of gas is.

I think the price of gas around the world shows that Canadians have very little to complain about.  The complaining is more of the headline then the gas price.

I bought a bike last week.  I also sold my vehicle in August.  I guess I got out at a good time.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

Hey QCE why Canadians???

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

Because I'm Canadaian.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

My point being that Canadians drive very large inefficient vehicles because gas is so cheap.  People in europe generally drive much smaller cars.  Now with gas prices going up Canadians are complaining a lot about the prices.  They are stuck driving the SUV in rush hour traffic and paying high gas prices.  When actually they are paying one of the lowest prices in the world for gas.

If gas in Canada went up to $2/L then we can start to complain for now I will pedel on.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

Pipelines are back on but not at full rates. Price of gas in Houston is starting to drop. How about Atlanta?

-The future's so bright I gotta wear shades!

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

1.34 Euro/liter for unleaded 95
1.09 Euro/liter for diesel
and that's supermarket prices

Might as well take my bike to work and back, but if I grab a beer from the fridge afterward, that's probably just as expensive.

Just don't think too long about it.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

QCE I don't know which province you stay but here in Quebec a lot of people have a little car but yes other have a big car. But it's like the weather, the people will always complain on everything this is humain nature. Never cheap on your contry or on the people like you do. I don't think you are the last good guy with environnementalist mind in Canada. But yes this is good for new technologies in transport.
In Montreal a big 4X4 is not a good idea. In the future the mind of people will be change or the new technologies will replace what we have now, I wish.

Have a good day

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

Just heard today that BP and Shell are looking at ways of ammended the price boards so that £1+ per litre can be easily displayed

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

An interesting thing happened last week in the Twin Cities (Mpls/St. Paul).  When the New Orleans disaster was being reported, some of the stories were on how the oil rigs and pipelines were damaged/disabled.  The next day, the price shot up from about $2.59/gal to $3.19/gal.

Then, the day after that, the local news started reporting that the Twin Cities only gets about 10% of its gasoline from the south, with about 90% coming from Canada.  That evening, the local prices dropped to $2.79/gal, and have stayed there thru the holiday weekend.

Somebody please tell me that none of this is greed and price gouging.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

denoid - can't tell you that one!  Governments quietly like the increases.  As the price increases, so does their revenue.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

denoid - If supply goes down then price goes up it doesn't matter were it comes from.  The price everywhere goes up from the reduction in oil from anywhere in the world.  It is greed and price goughing but that isn't anything new.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

Francois - What are you talking about?  Are you suggesting I should not critizes Canadian's gas consumption habits because I'm from Canada.  Because that is just riduculus.

My point remains - People use too much gas because it is so cheap in Canada.  Instead of complaining about rising gas prices as is happening now in Canada maybe these people should look at there gas usage habits.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

No You can critic it's OK I take firstly your remark like one attack about the people of Canada complain always and this is one think than I can understand my blood came hot very fast and if this is said by a Canadian it's a little worst because I hate people who shit on is brothers. I hate negative person like I thinks you was. But in your case it not look like this I'M sorry for my comment's.
I aggre the people who use a big pickup for the city is not very good, some people have need a big pickup but you forget the canada is wide and dependly where you stay you have need a lot of gas, (is't not a reason for big truck) exemple when I was young I stay 30 minutes of the first big cities and this grow up the need.
If you can pedal right go ahead is"t a good think but me I can do this. You are probaly alone me each morning my wife take is car (Corrolla 1.6 Liter) and me I must go with my children to the school ( 3 childrens). Thus we need two car and I change presently some habitute than I have but I don't complain about gas.

Sometime some people don't understand the good think and you see what happen.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

I am unaware of canadians complaining about gas/petrol prices more than any other country and I'm not sure why QCE is yet again complaining about Canadians. The UK had petrol disruption due to protests at risng petrol prices a few years ago and americans are complaining a lot at the increase in gas/petrol. Canadians aren't the exception if they are complaining and they're certainly not the exception when it comes to car engine size.

A comparison of fuel prices is shown in the link for a few countries http://www.aaroadwatch.ie/eupetrolprices/default.asp
It's from June so is a little out of date.

Another link shows how gas prices in Canada (as its the hot topic) are composed in different states and answers some questions as to why they have risen so much http://www.caa.ca/gasprice/pricing.html

corus

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

I'm not sure what the problem is.  I live in Canada.  I hear people complaining about gas prices.  I don't think it is justified when Canada has one of the lowest prices for petrol in the world.  I think people in other countries that pay higher prices happen to have a better reason to complain.  Does anyone really think that my critisism is that wrong?  I do think Canadians complain to much about this gas issue.  It is not an attack it is my opinion.

Corus I really enjoyed your 2 cents about something that you don't know anything about.  That you for taking your time to do a 2 second google search and then talk like you understand the situation in the states of Canada.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

"I'm not sure why QCE is yet again complaining about Canadians."

Are you suggesting that I complain to much.  I think that you will be "shocked" that is usually me with the proCanada stance.  You can appologize any time.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

Witch procanada stance??????????

Don't forget Canada is a producer of petrole.
On 1.34$/Liter 0.39$ is profit for refinery. You can check the financial of shell or other for see wich profit they make each trimestrial. Taxe from gouvernement is not a problem for me, because they need it when you and me go in hospital, university and more

"he can appologize any time" you are generous to give to him this option

Do you have a fan club who give to you a star each time you write something. You had one because you write "Because I'm Canadaian." wow

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

Perhaps one of the reasons why people in the US and Canada are complaining more about the price of fuel now, is because there is a relatively low tax on it compared to the UK.
In a relatively short period of time the price of crude has quadrupled.  In the same period of time, the price of fuel at the pumps appears to have roughly tripled in the US and Canada, whereas it has gone up by about 25% in the UK. It is this sudden change in expenditure that people are complaining about, even though the actual price in the US and Canada is still considerably lower.  That is perfectly understandable from a perception point of view. (Please excuse the accuracy of the actual figures - they are intended to demonstrate a point rather than to give precise figures).

The protests in the UK were about the level of taxation levied on UK fuel.  The haulage associations believed that this was making them uncompetitive with haulage companies in the rest of Europe.  Even though the price of fuel is higher now than during the protests, it is higher across Europe (& indeed the world), and so it affects all haulage companies.  Hence there is an opportunity to pass at least some of these costs onto the customer, and allows the UK haulage industry to compete on a more level playing field than if the price rises were due to taxation alone.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

Francois B - I'm not in an arguement with you.  The stars are not for each statement.  The star was for the effort of traslating all the gas prices into Am $/Am gal.  I have only received 1 star not many.

As myself and Corus are regulars on this site, I was refering to other postings where I believe I have always had a proCanadian stance.  I think he has mixed me up with some other Canadians that have complained about the PEng system or the job situation in Canada.  However this was not me and therefore I think he should check his facts, that is all.

This site is for people to voice there opinion.  You can disagree and debate peoples opinions.  I do not mind.

Hold the phone Trevor I know you said the numbers are not correct but lets get real.  The price of gas last year was over 80 cents/L  before the NO thing it was roughly 95 cents/L because of the cost of oil going up.  The NO thing caused the price to go to $1.20.  I think it will be back down in a short time.  I don't see any tripling or even doubling.  We have seen our prices go up by about 25 - 50% depending on what you mean by a short period (1year or 1month).

My point again!

Canada pays a low price for gas compared to the rest of the world. (I know the taxes are different but it is not important to the person paying the actual money at the pump - the price we pay at the pump is low)

Canadians are complaing a lot right now because the price is gone up.  (I am not suggesting that Canadians are whiners just that they are complaining a lot on this issue.)

I personnelly think that people in Canada have been spoiled with cheap gas and don't think they should be complaining.

End of story.  Debate me if you will or ask me to clarify my stance but don't get upset or write things that are not true about me.

Thank you - This is the end of me on this thread "How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?".

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

To put fuel prices into perspective...

Here in the UK, my daughter's school opened for the start of the new school year today.  And with it, the roads filled up with people driving their kids the mile or so it takes to get there.

My point is that fuel prices can't be that bad if people are still using their cars for this sort of journey.  We are due to cross the £1/litre barrier this week.  I wonder how high the price has to go before people start walking again?

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

Today with the increase,we have crossed the Rs50/litre  (1.14USD/litre) mark for petrol. Long live our government!!

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

Another Canadian voicing in here..

QCE is right about the fact that we have had it good in terms of gas pricing. But now people in and around major Canadian cities have to adapt to a new reality of ever increasing gas costs. Even if gas prices don't hit $2/L, people now realize that they need to do something about this. In Europe, a lot of people have been living with this reality for a long time, and have adapted.

Just last year, Piaggio (the makers of Vespa scooters) began importing new scooters into the Canadian market for the first time in 18 years. Scooters in general have had a strong presence in Europe since the '50s (one of my fondest memories of Rome was seeing four nuns, dressed in habits and all, riding down the street on Vespas).

Since they have started shipping, I have noticed a HUGE increase in scooters on city streets, and the trend will likely rise even further. People will not replace their cars and SUV with scooters and mopeds, but they are realizing that if they can all but park the car for 6 months out of the year, ride their scooter to work 5 days a week (maybe take the car in the evening for kids' soccer practice or grocery shopping), they will see a HUGE savings on fuel prices.

A fill up on my 50cc scooter is about $9 at today's prices, but that is only if the bike is sucking fumes before I fill it. That tank of gas will easily get me 400km of city traffic.

(A few weeks ago while filling up, the person behind me was telling his wife that it was going to cost them over $100 to fill the tank on their GMC Envoy. I remember his look of disbelief when I paid the attendant with the loose change in my pocket.)

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

In NB, Canada we have seen a lot of  1.39$cdn/l

converted at 85c to the US dollar I find

4.54 $US/GalUS

Still much better than Europe it seems, but enough to make people think about their driving habits &choices

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

My wife and I drove to my families home in Northern Nevada over the weekend, from our home outside of Los Angeles CA. It is a route that goes through many small towns along the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada mtns. My wife decided to doccument the gas prices tha we saw on pumps, and photographed many of them. The trip saw a range of gasoline cost from the cheapest here in Los Angeles, at 2.95(us)/gal to the most expensive in Lee Vining CA at 4.89(us)/gal.

Our cars are deisel, which was quite different, from the cheapest in Fallon, NV at 3.04/gal to the most expensive in Los Angeles, at 3.69/gal.

I don't know much about fuel production, but does any one have any ideas why this might be (almost exactly backwards between deisel and gas). Our guess is based on steady consumption of diesel and overstocking in Farming communities, where deisel is more common.

Wes C.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

Diesel consumption is relatively stable through out the year. Trucks run 7 days a week and 365 days a year while gasoline consumption spikes in the summer time. Typically most trucks can run 1000 miles on a fill-up and can afford to fill where cheapest.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

Up to £0.97/ litre today, seems like the £1 mark is only days away.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

QCE - Just to annoy FrancoisB, who I think is being overly sensitive,  I've gone through the whole thread and given you another star each time you made a comment.

Why can't Canadians objectively critique their own country?  The only criticism we Australians can stand is that from other Australians.  (That does not include Germain Greer who for all i&p is English these days, and therefore not qualified to comment about anything to do with Australian society after the '70s)

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

Why do some people insist that residents from certain countries can't cite "high" gas prices if the price in some other country is higher?

Last time I checked, I only had voting rights in one country.  Come to think of it, I only own a car in one country and I buy gas predominantly in one country.

If it makes you feel better that people in other countries pay more for gas because of high taxes, then more power to you.  But don't tell me that I can't say gasoline is expensive after it has nearly doubled in price per gallon over the last four years in my area (without significant changes in taxes).  The fact that people in other countries may still pay more is irrelevant.

Also, when someone makes the comment that a person (or country) uses "too much" gasoline, what exactly does that mean?  In most countries, people are free to drive whatever vehicle they choose, and free to drive however much they choose, if they can afford it.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

I have to agree with QCE, canadians do complain a lot about our gas prices.

I'm canadian, it doesn't bother me.  Everyone has to pay it, those that pay more drive more or drive enormous SUV's that are bigger than my dream house.

I paid $1.29/L on the weekend, $50 to fill up a civic.  That will last me a month though.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

That is an interesting point of view Haf. Would you say a school that got two pupils on to higher education had a high success rate? Well I guess if they only got one last year then yes you would!!

Personally I would say it was a low success rate if just about every other school was getting more. You are still getting cheap petrol, just not as cheap as it was.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

ajack1: I don't see how your comparison is relevant, but, either way, I think we are agreeing with each other.

Gasoline/petrol prices are determined by many factors, including the price of crude oil, refinery costs, delivery costs, and TAXES.

From what I can tell, the relatively high gas prices in Europe compared to the US/Canada are due to taxes more than any other factor.

Since that is the case, comparing gas prices between countries is basically pointless, since you're really comparing taxes more than anything else.  If you really want to compare gas prices between countries, then take the taxes out of the price per gallon or liter.  I would guess that the cost for gasoline is fairly similar between developed countries before taxes, but maybe I'm wrong.

My point is that gas is relatively expensive in the US compared to the recent past, and the fact that someone from another country still thinks it's cheap is basically useless information.  Similarly, I would expect that me telling someone in the UK that petrol was expensive compared to the US would be useless information to them (unless they want to use that as grounds to put pressure on their government to reduce taxes, which probably wouldn't be a very viable reason anyway).

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

Adding to Haf's point...

Because tax makes up ~65p of a 95p litre in the UK, relative changes in the before-tax price are diluted somewhat.  Doubling the pre-tax price in the UK would only give ~30% rise in the final cost.

This is not the case in countries with lower fuel taxes.  In these countries a doubling of the pre-tax price gives a much bigger relative change in final cost.

And this gives rise to the somewhat paradoxical situation where those lucky people from countries with low fuel taxes complain that they've been hit extra hard compared with us in Europe who've only seen marginal increases in price.

RE: How much is gasoline/petrol costing you at the pump?

Haf, I would guess you are correct that fuel is pretty much the same cost in all developed countries, I would guess the transportation would be less expensive in countries that have cheap fuel

Certainly in the UK fuel is heavily taxed, I thought it was 80p in the £ but I could be wrong.

However if this is true then we all have paid the same amount extra, namely the increase, we just have a large chunk of tax on top, so the percentage is less but the amount is the same.
