Fire Safe Valve Seals

Fire Safe Valve Seals

(OP)
Does anyone know of a viable alternatives to grafoil packing or gaskets to make a valve fire safe?  I am looking to see if I can get an oring type seal (shaft in a bore) that is self energizing to act as a fire safe seal.

I have very little experiance in this area and may be dreaming of the impossible, but any suggestions will help.

Thank you in advance for your comments.

RE: Fire Safe Valve Seals

BigMac23,
you might try, for example, to see the following:

   http://www.seals.saint-gobain.com
   http://www.omniseal.com

They've got solutions for very low temperatures, may be they have something for high temperatures too... even if I feel you should look at ceramic fibers more than at elastomers and plastics.

So I'd suggest to look for "HEPHAISTOS®" packing into the Latty website:

   http://www.latty.com

Hope this helps,          'NGL

RE: Fire Safe Valve Seals

BigMac23,
To make a valve fire safe, there are many things to deal with. Besides the materials of packing and gasket will be choosen the graphite or 50%graphite+50%316stainless steel, the capability of valve's seal  or the leakage after fire is also worth the whistle. So the structure of valve-body would be disposed in factory.

RE: Fire Safe Valve Seals

Is it necessary to include the thermal expansion in the design? The temperature changing may be so sudden.
