Locating Walls in a new building

Locating Walls in a new building

Locating Walls in a new building

(OP)
I've heard that:

"walls should not be located along the building's main column lines"

Can someone tell me why?

Thanks
d6.

RE: Locating Walls in a new building

If you have CMU walls partially bracing columns you will end up with a stiffer element than anticipated, thus attracting higher lateral loads to the column that may lead to a shear failure.
