Spot Weld Finite Element Model

Spot Weld Finite Element Model

Spot Weld Finite Element Model

(OP)
I have found in some papers a finite element model of a spot weld. Basically, it consists of a central beam element with diameter of nugget diameter d coupled through rigid bars in a spoke pattern (also with diameter of d)with plate elements. The question is what is the length of the central beam element? The reference papers are

- Approximate Stress Formulas for a Multiaxial Spot Weld Specimen (Welding Research Supplement pg 201 - pg 203 , August 2001) (S.Zhang)

- Approximate Stress Intensity Factors and Notch Stresses for Common Spot-Welded Specimens (Welding Research Supplement pg 173 - pg 179 , May 1999) (S.Zhang)

Thank You for your reply
