File Conversion

(OP)
Hello All,

I've never actually used the file conversion wizard before, not that it wouldn't have helped. But now 2 years later and SW 2006 it seems like a good idea. I have searched but didn't find whether it could be run at night through the task scheduler. Did I miss something in my reading through the help?

Thanks,

Dennis

SolidWorks Task Scheduler Overview
The SolidWorks Task Scheduler lets you set up tasks to perform at a future time. For example, if you need to perform a resource-intensive task such as rebuilding a large assembly, you can use SolidWorks Task Scheduler to perform the job at off-peak hours. You can schedule a task to be performed only once or on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. SolidWorks Task Scheduler runs separately from the SolidWorks application.

CBL,

The only option that made sense in the task scheduler was "update files". My question is, will this do the same thing as the "conversion wizard"? If not I would think it's possible to write an api, but I'm not comfortable enough to attempt.

RE: File Conversion

Just run the conversion wizard on it's own.  You can specify a folder to convert and it will run until all the files are converted.  You don't need to use the task scheduler at all.

RE: File Conversion

I would make a tape backup of your files if possible before you convert them. Because once over the files will be converted and if you wanted to go back to and older version of SW... it will not be possible.

RE: File Conversion

I thought you could set the wizard to make backup files automatically?

Thanks everyone,

I just let the conversion wizard run overnight. I did burn everything onto CD's before conversion just in case. So far so good with 2006.

RE: File Conversion

How would the conversion tool effect the PDMWorks vault?  I'm assuming you would specify the vault folder for the parts to convert and shut down vault service.  Are there any problems with that?
