Budgetary Cost for Variable Speed Drives

Budgetary Cost for Variable Speed Drives

Budgetary Cost for Variable Speed Drives

(OP)
Can anyone tell me an approximate budgetary number to use for the cost of Variable Speed Drives? I would like to have a "dollars per horsepower" number if possible. I understand this number will likely be higher for smaller motors.

The motor sizes I am working with range from 15 hp to 100 hp.

Thank you.

RE: Budgetary Cost for Variable Speed Drives

The cost of variable speed drives in this duty range is not great - however you should be avare that there is both the cost of the pump itself AND the hookup. Adding the additional loops and control elements can add up quickly to more than the additional cost for the pump.

Best regards

Morten

RE: Budgetary Cost for Variable Speed Drives

I would have to pay about $1600 for a Neam 12, 20hp, 230V and around $2750 for a 50hp, 480V, Nema 1

Relatively bare bones units.

Morten makes a good point. Depending on what you are trying to do, you may spend more on the control system although alot of the inverters now have built in PID loops etc (but I don't know what you are trying to accomplish)

RE: Budgetary Cost for Variable Speed Drives

Dont forget that the panel size will increase particularly for large drives. this could result in your switchroom becoming larger and increasing costs.
