Poor incoming power?
Poor incoming power?
(OP)
I have been having problems tripping motor starter overloads, blowing fuses and having my reefer compressors koncked off line. I suspect incoming voltage problems, browning and surges etc. Is there a device or a way that I can moniter the condition of incoming electric over a 24 hr. period, even over the weekend? This is a 230v 3ph 60hz feed into our facility. Any help would be better than what I got from the electric co.

RE: Poor incoming power?
I went to a company to install an air compressor that had very bad incoming voltage. They were burning a lot of three phase motors because of a horrible imbalance coming from the transformer on the pole. They knew the voltage varied and was not balanced but the power company engineer said it was within the acceptable range and was not what was causing their problems.
I was able to call and talk to the engineer and read the relevant codes and formulas to him so there was no doubt about it. After trying to dodge it for 15 min. on the phone they came out and fixed the problem in a couple of hours.
The reason I got involved was that we would not warranty the air compressor with that much imbalance.
