Bonding PTFE to EPDM

Bonding PTFE to EPDM

Bonding PTFE to EPDM

(OP)
I am designing a product which will be using a diaphragm. It needs to be PTFE coated EPDM.  The supplier sent back samples bonded with an acrylic-based double-coated film.  These diaphragms peeled right apart.  I believe there is a better way to bond PTFE to EPDM.  I have heard that the best way is to burnish the PTFE surface with a primer and then bond using a cyanoacryate gel.  But this is just one idea.  What do ya'll think?  And can you recommend some product?

RE: Bonding PTFE to EPDM

There are two ways to achieve somewhat of a bond with Teflon, both involved surface modification.  If you have quantities use a plasma etch.  If it is low volume use a chemical etch such as Tetra-Etch.  It is still a bear of a job.
You have to work with the adhesive suppliers to find out which adhesive will work the best with each system.

RE: Bonding PTFE to EPDM

ECTFE may be a better "teflon" to use for bonding.

Why do you need Teflon?
