young modulus aluminium

young modulus aluminium

(OP)
is there a web site where i can find the young modulus of aluminium

thanks in advance
cees

RE: young modulus aluminium

matweb

RE: young modulus aluminium

(OP)
thanks  but i need for each sort of aluminum its young modulus
example   7075 t7351    and 7075  O     and 7075t6     and so on
this for calc in software

hope some can still help me
i only get about figure's in a group   but i need specific of each sort

RE: young modulus aluminium

Per The Aluminum Association, the typical Young's Modulus for the 70xx alloys is 10,400,000 psi and does not change based on the temper or heat treatment.  The typical value for Young's Modulus varies from 10,000,000 to 10,600,000 depending on alloy with the higher strength alloys generally having the higher valuses.  Curiously enough, The Aluminum Association does not list the Young's Modulus of 7xx alloys in their table of "Minimum Expected Mechanical Properties" in the 2000 version of their design manual.  Perhaps someone out there has a newer version?

RE: young modulus aluminium

that info is on matweb...  they show figures for 7xxx aluminum that range from 68GPa to 72GPa.  You'll have to figure out how to do the search for yourself.

RE: young modulus aluminium

I thought there were some military specs dealing
with aluminum alloys that also diffentiated some
of the properties by different cross sectional
areas.

RE: young modulus aluminium

...That would be the AR-MMPDS-01, which is the successor document of Mil-Hdbk-5.

FAA's AR-MMPDS-01 ...
http://www.tc.faa.gov/its/worldpac/techrpt/ar-mmpds-01.pdf

altough is a very interesting document  and handbook
there is still no young modulus
also i need specific   7075 t7351
if you look at other properties on 7075 T6   its differant
shear and strenght
if you look at matweb

so i cannot assume all 7075 are the same

so who can help me?

RE: young modulus aluminium

klaas2, you stated, “i need specific   7075 t7351     so i cannot assume all 7075 are the same.”

I am curious what you are designing that requires such accuracy in the Young’s Modulus that you can’t make the assumption.  Rarely do I have the opportunity to work on a project that has the manufacturing tolerances, the applied loads, material tolerance, etc. so well defined that a 5% uncertainty in any of the material properties significantly impacts the design.  If you assume the worst case for the Young’s Modulus, will it significantly impact your design?

And, if you do find a specific reference for the Young’s Modulus for 7075 t7351, how are you going to determine the accuracy of the data regarding your specific piece of metal that will end up being used for your design?

RE: young modulus aluminium

Even if you find "specific data", you will probablly be subject to a 2~5% uncertatinty due to material conditions, operating temperature, etc etc etc. Seems like a lot of work with very return. Anyway: AR-MMPDS pg. 3-386

good luck.

well it may sounds stupid but for this purpose
i design a composiet bike
complete under 4 kg
must be endure   250.000  cycles of 1500 n/m
so every part is to its limit's
and of course we make and design evry part our selve
for other reasons 7075 t6 is not a option
and for other reasons every part must have aerospace certfied material

RE: young modulus aluminium

7075T7351 AR-MMPDS-01, pg3-373 E = 10.3E3ksi
not unsurprising much like the other varities of 7075

good luck, it's going to be difficult to make an efficient bike out of 7075 (not particularly weight efficient, not particularly strong in fatigue, difficult to weld, ...)

RE: young modulus aluminium

(OP)
thanks
i do not make the complete bike out of a 7075 t7351
only some parts but still its going to the limit
and the bike must be the stiffest avaible on the market
frame gone be mainly out of carbon

RE: young modulus aluminium

Is this a bike in competition to be sent to mars?

RE: young modulus aluminium

sorry again
but i have looked at the page 373  in that handbook  at chapter 3  3.2.3 =2024
but its about 2024
meaby i am wrong sorry for that
but i see no where stated 7075  T7351

RE: young modulus aluminium

in my version it is 7075-t7351

sec 3.7.6

if you are looking at the pdf version look on page 675 of 1728
