Sheet metal brake design

Sheet metal brake design

Sheet metal brake design

(OP)
I having been toying around with sheetmetal and box tube steel as a hobby.  Would like to bend sheet metal precisely for some of the projects that I want to do and realize that a sheet metal brake is the best way to do so.  Does anyone have any pictures of brakes or sites that I can visit to get any ideas to design a brake.  Is it worth it? Should I just buy one?  Doesn't seem that complex of a machine.

Thanks in advance, Chad

RE: Sheet metal brake design

Hi Chad---

This forum is not my area of expertise,  but I have a url that might help you.  I have always been one of those folks that would rather spend $100 to learn to make a $5 part than go and buy it. Nobody ever accused me of being overly smart!!!

Try this site     http://www.tptools.com

You can also pick up their catalog through Hemmings,  page 57 for sheet metal brakes.  Really inexpensive tools.

Thanks Rodman,  I guess we have alot in common, for I too will spend more on something to build it rather than what it would cost to buy.  Satisfaction of a job well done is priceless....

Thanks again, Chad

RE: Sheet metal brake design

harborfreight.com has lo buck ones - $20 for 18" wide

RE: Sheet metal brake design

There's a Harbor Freight on Katella, I'll go have a peek and see if it'a usable.  $20 is pretty cheap!

Chad :It's more than likely you have a metal brake by now.If not go to http://www.orilliapronet.com/rsw.engineering/sample.htm It sounds like you like to build things. At this sight you can get plans to build a 4 foot brake for under 100.00
