Sec I fillet contour

Sec I fillet contour

Sec I fillet contour

(OP)
in ASME SecI , PW-36.2 refer the quality of fillet weld contour to ASME SecIX, but I couldn't find anything about this in SecIX. could anybody please help me.

RE: Sec I fillet contour

In Section I of the 2001 Edition/2003 Addendum of the ASME B&PV Code, PW-36.2 makes no reference to Section IX. The paragraph is titled "Fillet Welds". It mentions adequate penetration, maximum undercut and the surface of fillet welds with no specific reference to Section IX..

No mention in the 2004 addition of Section I.

RE: Sec I fillet contour

(OP)
would you please kindly tell me the maximum amount of undercut and the requirement for surface of fillet weld base on ASME 2003 addendum?

RE: Sec I fillet contour

Maximum undercut;
1/32" OR 10% of wall thickness, whichever is the lesser value.

Contour;
No coarse ripples or grooves, smooth transition. Concavity of the weld face is permitted provided it does not encroach on the required weld thickness.

RE: Sec I fillet contour

(OP)
is there any convexity permitted?

RE: Sec I fillet contour

Yes. However, the convexity must not exceed maximum reinforcement or result in abrupt transitions or excessive undercut with the base metal.
