Making a simple generator

Making a simple generator

(OP)
question???
i have a 1075rpm 240v 2hp electic motor.  If I connect it's shaft to a 10hp gas engine.  Will it product 240volts while the gas engine is spinning at 1075rpms??

RE: Making a simple generator

No. Induction motors will not generate on their own.

If the terminals are connected to a 240V line, then it can generate power back into the line as an induction generator. The engine would need to turn slighly above synchronous speed for that to happen.
