I try to save a step file that I have opened in Catia V5, as a CatProduct file using File/ Save Management but it does not work. I don’t not what I did wrong. Can you please help me out?
Thank you.

Rob

RE: Step File

Do you have a license to open a step file?  To read/write a step file needs a special license.

Good luck!

RE: Step File

Yes, I do. My license includes the Catia Step Core Interface 1 A0 product. I can read the file, but I cannot save it as a Catia file.
Thanks.
Rob.

RE: Step File

Why are you trying to use save management?  Do your STEP file open with an assembly structure?

Check out CATBlog!

RE: Step File

I would think you'd have to save the step file as a CATPart first, then add it into the CATProduct you create.

RE: Step File

The step file has opened with an assembly structure.
I need to save it as a CATProduct file to be able to do some chnges on the parts of the assembly.

RE: Step File

If it's already an assmbly structure then there is nothing else to do than save it Catia will save the assy's as Products and the single Parts as Part document.
If it opens as a part with several part bodies then it's not an assembly structure and can not be saved as a Product you will then have to split it manually into separate part files and create a new Product to insert the seperated files.
In this case it's probably easier to re translate because if it was originally an assembly structure then you should also be able to translate it as an assembly structure.
How was the Step file done?

RE: Step File

(OP)
The step file was created from a SolidWorks data.
Thank you.
