GRAPHICS CARD UPDATE ADVICE

GRAPHICS CARD UPDATE ADVICE

GRAPHICS CARD UPDATE ADVICE

(OP)
I AM NEW TO SOLIDWORKS AND I'M TRING TO SET UP MY SYSTEM.
I HAVE CHECKED ON THE SOLID WORKS WEB SITE FOR "SUPPORTED"
GRAPHICS CARDS AND THE QUADRO 4 900XGL SOUNDS LIKE A GOOD,
MIDDLE-OF-THE-ROAD CHOICE. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS? BY THE WAY, THIS IS ONLY FOR LIGHT DUTY, HOME
USE.
THANKS IN ADVANCE,
PHILLIPS7609

RE: GRAPHICS CARD UPDATE ADVICE

The FX 500 is also a good card and I believe its a little cheaper than the 900???

RE: GRAPHICS CARD UPDATE ADVICE

Check the FAQ FAQ559-936 on video cards.  I would make a mental note to refer to this section when need arises.  I personally use the 750 XGL and that does me fine.  It cost me $650 a little over three years ago.  At work I have the FX 1400 which is supported by the new PCIe bus.  But when I ran star 2.0 my home computer was not much slower then my new Dell workstation here at work.

RE: GRAPHICS CARD UPDATE ADVICE

I have a used (about 2 years old) FX500 that I won from the Solidworks 2004 beta contest. Works fine and does RealView. I'll let it go for $50. I replaced it with a GeForce 6800 GT to get my gaming fix at home, otherwise no issues with it.

RE: GRAPHICS CARD UPDATE ADVICE

I wouldn't pass that up!

I have both the 500 and 1100 FX. They are awesome cards and for that price you won't regret it. Plus I think it's newer then the 900 XGL

RE: GRAPHICS CARD UPDATE ADVICE

Gildashard

I would like to buy that card if Philips is not interested in it

RE: GRAPHICS CARD UPDATE ADVICE

It's not a bad card at all. It's fairly fast on moderately large assemblies and plays alot of games well. Just doesn't play Doom3 and Battlefield 2 worth a crap, but any game older than 2 years does well.

Oh, and the card is AGPx8 I believe so whomever gets it needs to make sure their motherboard is compatable.

THANKS GILDASHARD FOR THE OFFER ON THE CARD BUT I TALKED TO MY COMPUTER GUY AND FOUND OUT THAT MY MOTHER BOARD IS PCIe, WHATEVER THAT MEANS.

ANYWAY HE SAYS I HAVE TO GO WITH SOMETHING LIKE THE FX540. IT ALSO HAS 128MB ONBOARD AND COSTS LESS THAN $250.00. DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ONE?

THANKS,
PHILLIPS7609

RE: GRAPHICS CARD UPDATE ADVICE

That means PCI-Express - so neither card will work for you. The 900 XGL is AGP as well as the 500.

You should look at the Quadro FX 4400/3400/1400/1300/540

This URL compares the nVidia cards.

Note the Memory Bandwidth row for performance specs.
Also note the Max Power Consumption row. In some cases, (older or cheaper computers) upgrading the card could  necessitate upgrading the power supply.

RE: GRAPHICS CARD UPDATE ADVICE

Phillips7609,

I have been using a FX540 for about 2 months now.

It works well for me. The assembly files that I work with are about 50 to 100 componets I would say it is a little better than the FX500 agp card as far as speed goes.
