Axis defined by intersection of 2 planes not updating

Axis defined by intersection of 2 planes not updating

Axis defined by intersection of 2 planes not updating

(OP)
I use planes to define the location of a bolt pattern on a flat plate frequently.  If the plate is centered with respect to the 3 original construction planes, I offset 2 additional planes to the location where I want my bolt pattern center to be.  I then create an axis at the intersection of those 2 newly constructed planes to serve as the rotation axis when defining a circular pattern.

The problem I have is that if I change the offset of one of the two constructed planes, the axis does not "follow" and my bolt pattern does not update position correctly.

Has anyone else had this problem?  Any solutions?
Thanks,
Tony

RE: Axis defined by intersection of 2 planes not updating

Tony,

You method works on my installation.  The pattern moves without changing only if the seed hole is dimensioned to the axis in question.  If the seed hole of the pattern is dimensioned to something else it doesn't move with the axis and the resulting pattern turns out different when its center moves.

I don't use planes for this. I either create a hole then pattern it, or pattern the holes in the sketch.

I have often used the same method & have not experienced or heard of that problem before.
What SW version & SP are you using?
Are you creating the planes, axes & hole pattern, at the part level or from within an assy?

RE: Axis defined by intersection of 2 planes not updating

I'm with Ctopher on this one.  Why not use a simple hole, or hole wizard for the hole, and pattern that. Why revolve the hole?

In response to many replies:

- I'm using SW2005
- I'm creating the planes, axes, and holes at the part level
- I am using the hole wizard to create the hole, but am using planes to define its location.  I then pattern the hole by using a circular pattern and using the defined axis as my center of rotation.

For some reason my system was not updating the plane location correctly.  After messing with it a bit, I was able to get it to update by selecting "Auto-size" in the plane options.

Thanks for all the quick replies!

Do a Ctrl-Q after you update it

If that doesn't work then try running a repair on your install
