IR Flame Detectors in Aircraft Hangar
IR Flame Detectors in Aircraft Hangar
(OP)
Hi All,
We are planning to install a Deluge Foam-Water sprinkler system in an ( Group 1 - Acc. to NFPA 409) Aircraft hangar.
In NFPA 409 chapter 6.2.8.2.1 it's said that, for actuating the deluge system rate of rise, fixed temperature or rate compensation type detectors shall be used.
Since the air craft will be fueled ( JP-5 ) in the hangar some manufacturers offered us IR Flame detectors.
We are in doubt because of the false alarms that flame detectors can give. Also i was'nt able to find anything about the flame detedtors in NFPA 409.
What's your opinion shall we have to use IR detectors or heat detectors ?
Thanks.

RE: IR Flame Detectors in Aircraft Hangar
The reason your not finding anything about optical flame detection in NFPA 409 is because its outside of the scope of the standard. Please review NFPA 72 for the requirements for optical flame detection systems.
