FE modelling of Kevlar rods
FE modelling of Kevlar rods
(OP)
Hi all,
I need guidance with the FE modelling of Kevlar material. Can it be dealt with in a simple manner (ie assuming it's isotropic) or do I have to start worrying about composites properties, element orientation in the FE model ...
I'm running Ideas 8m2 for 3D modelling and FEA.
Cheers

RE: FE modelling of Kevlar rods
is it in rope form?
is it a reinforcement in a binder?
is it layed up in a laminate?
is the laminate cross plied?
is the layup near "quasi-isotropic" with 0,90,+-45?
is CTE important?
is failure mode critical?
If the answers are yes to all the above, then the assumption of isotropy will be ok for first cut. The recommendation would be to use the effective orthotropic properties of the laminate at the least
