Hydraulics vs Mechanics on Wind Turbines
Hydraulics vs Mechanics on Wind Turbines
(OP)
Is it possible to use a pump as a more efficient means of transfering the energy from the turbine to an alternatore ground on the ground. Easier to maintain, regulate PSI? Am I crazy or does it make sense?

RE: Hydraulics vs Mechanics on Wind Turbines
Firstly, your system efficiency will not beat the efficiency of a mechanical transmission - therefore you are losing power.
Secondly, you will use a pump and a hydraulic motor plus various instrumentation - cost to install and to maintain this solution will be prohibitive for a short linear transfer.
It will start to make economical sense as the distance of the transfer increases - and it is used in these cases.
Hope this help.
