SO2 Removal technologies for coal power plant

SO2 Removal technologies for coal power plant

(OP)
I need to find out as much as I can about the types, vendors, design considerations, etc.  for SO2 scrubbers that would be applicable to coal fired utility boilers.

Any interesting articals comparing different technologies etc will be very helpful.

Thank you all in advance.

RE: SO2 Removal technologies for coal power plant

Try power engineering, power, and chemical engineering magazines.

You may want to buy: Profiles in Flue gas desulfurization, by R. Lunt and J. Cunic ISBN 0-8169-0820-9   AIChE, 2000
If briely describes all the available processes

RE: SO2 Removal technologies for coal power plant

There is a tremendous amount of information available in the technical literature on processes for removing SO2 from the flue gases emitted by coal-fired power plants.  I would strongly suggest that you spend a few days in the library of your nearest large university. You will find that the technical literature on this subject extends back about 20 to 25 years.

You could also contact the Electric Power Research Institute in Palo Alto, California (www.epri.com)

Also, check out the web sites for B&W and Alstom.  They publish PDF files describing many of their technologies for emission control

There must be a real shortage of SO2 experts out there- the jobs listed at www.thinkjobs.com  are avefraging a salary of $150K / annum for SO3 scrubber PM's.

Visit www.seaat.com.
This is a consortium that promote exhaust gas scrubbing for ships... not coal fired, so not exactly what you want but you may find some info that will lead you to current manufacturers.

Another place to go is the clearing house in Washington for the Institute for Clean Air Companies.   I think you can find them at www.icac.com or .org.  Try a google search.  Also, The McIlvaine Company, in Chicago, is another excellent clearing house.  Give Bob a call; his father made the first SO2 scrubber in the US (in their basement, if you can believe that...)
