Crack Control - 2005 LRFD Interims

(OP)
Has anyone started working with the AASHTO 2005 LRFD Interim Revisions?  Section 5.7.3.4 has changed in that the Z parameter is no longer used for crack control in concrete.  There is now a gamma factor that controls the spacing of reinforcing.

I'm using a gamma factor of 1.00 for Class 1 Exposure Conditions which according to the code is suited for deck design.  According to my calculations I'm getting a maximum reinforcing spacing in the neighborhood of 5 inches.  Calculating using the old Z of 130 for extreme exposure worked fine for my reinfocing spacing of 8 inches.

Is anyone else getting much more restrictive spacings than the old method?

Thanks in advance.
