Insert Pictures (to trace geometry) in an Assembly

Insert Pictures (to trace geometry) in an Assembly

(OP)
I love the Trace Sketch feature from ISDX to insert pictures in part mode as a reference to create geometry.
I would like to use the picture in an assembly to have all my parts reference the same picture. I tried to insert the part that as the picture into my assembly and the picture used to show. It wasn’t very stable as I had to regen and/or minimize sometime to make it appear. My problem now is that it won’t show at all, I am not sure what I did wrong. By the way I am using Wildfire 2.0, I had M060 and installed M140 but it didn't fix it.

I used SolidWorks at my previous job and this feature worked fine. I am sure there is a way to make this work in Pro-E.

Please help.
Thanks

RE: Insert Pictures (to trace geometry) in an Assembly

It sounds more like a graphics card issue.

I have had similar issues with Trace Sketches in the past (i.e. having to refresh/minimize to make it show), especially on the computers at my former place of work. When we got new machines with better graphics cards, the problem went away for the most part.

As for showing it in the assembly, a Skeleton part with the Style feature is a good solution (minus the graphics issues you are having..). Thinking out loud: you can also use the skeleton part to create datum geometry to assemble the components to. This will let you establish all of your references in part mode (skeleton), and then hide the Style and assemble all the parts to the datum references. Additionally, you can create Publish Geometry features containing the appropriate datum references for each part or subassembly. Creating a External Copy Geom in each part lets you bring in the data contained in the appropriate Publish Geometry.

Another Idea:
Before Wildfire I used to create flat surfaces in my part model and map my image as a JPEG onto these surface in order to get a visual reference for creating curves and datum geometry. Maybe this would work better for you.

justkeepgiviner,

You may be right about the video card. I updated my driver but it didn’t solve the problem.

I didn’t realize all the options available from the “Color and Appearance” menu to map pictures onto surfaces. This works great both in part and assembly and so far is stable (no need to minimize, etc.). The best part is that I can do all that without ISDX.

Thanks for your help.
