Directions...technical or management

(OP)
Hi...people..

I am facing a very interisting career situation. I am 32 years old and I have worked in industrial (chemical engineering) area for 10 years. I really like to manager technical teams and R&D Project but I am not a kind of guy who likes to be involved in main calculations of projects I like to manager steps and resources. I already have worked in production area, but I didn´t like it is so routine for me.
Nowadays I am taking a PhD course and chemical engineer.

Question: What´s your opinion about this profile? Sugestions and advises will be welcome...thanks..

RE: Directions...technical or management

Are you a PE?

If so, and you're not the "... kind of guy who likes to be involved in main calculations of projects..." go get an MBA and do us the favor of being the best manager you can be.

Why bother with the Ph.D. if you don't really like the calculations? Will having the Ph.D. make you a better manager?

RE: Directions...technical or management

You have a strong desire to go into management. Too many people do it for the money, status, or it's the only step up the ladder.

You don't like detail work. Thus, you will be less likely to micro-manage the people who work for you.

I think you are 90% of the way there. I don't think you need the MBA but it could only help if you want to get one.

I have strong desire to be an executive in a technical area...as for example a customer solutions guy working in a strong team...

I am sure I cannot be a better manager ou director because a PhD title...but I believe it is a very interisting experience to view a different face of duties in our area.

May be I am gonna go take a R&D Management couse...do you know some around the world?
