baloon and boms

baloon and boms

baloon and boms

(OP)
Is it possible to split part qty in the bom table?

we want the bom to read basically like this

item qty   desc

1     1   plate
2     10  m10 bolt
3     1   plate 2
4     6   m10 bolt

instead we get for m10 bolt item ... qty 16

also we want to balloon the same bolts with different item numbers automatically

RE: baloon and boms

Are all the M10 bolts the same length?

If not, are you using i-parts...if you are, you need to change the filename column so that IV gives each different length bolt a different name. Once they all have different names IV will know that they are different and not group them together in the BOM

If they are the same length, MOST companies want them as one line item, and I would think it would be very difficult for software to automatically determine where to split the group.

Couple options: once the fasteners are place you could demote them to their own sub-assembly (but you loose constraints), or you could rename some of the fasteners (which will get messy), or you could manually overwrite the BOM to have it show whatever you want (not automatic, and will NOT update itself)

If the different fasteners are part of a sub-assembly, they should be called out in the sub instead of the top assem. Possibly make more sub-assembies?

all the bolts are the same size but used in different parts of the assembly.

we are manually changing the boms at the moment for item numbers eg

item 20 is a plate that needs 10 bolts (item 21) and 10 nuts (item 22)

item 30 is a plate that needs 5 of the same bolts,(item 31) and 5 of the same nuts (item 32)

this method of building a bom is used elswere in the company with other programs and we are trying to tie in inventor with the other sopftware

in pro e you can split items such as the same bolts into different item numbers and the bom will never allow the sum of all the bolts, (different item numbers) to be more than the the amount of that type of bolt you have in the assembly
