exploding causes dimension to go all over?

exploding causes dimension to go all over?

exploding causes dimension to go all over?

(OP)
I have to make revisions to a relatively old ACAD drawing (last tampered with in 1999).  The detail needs to go onto a newer standard sheet for the company and some stuff needs to be edited.  The sheet looks fine when i open it up.  Heres the problem though:  the entire file is blocked and the second i explode that block, dimensions and text skew all over the place.  Does anyone know what causes this?  It's happened to me before and it drives me crazy.  Id rather not have to redimension something like this if i can find a way around it.

What does the Express Burst command do for you?

The same thing: skews crud all over unfortunately :\.

Just to make mention:  I opened it in block editor as well (i have acad 2006).  It shows up all skewed.

RE: exploding causes dimension to go all over?

Maybe it was saved with an odd UCS.

RE: exploding causes dimension to go all over?

In the new drawing in which you instert your block you have to set up the dimension style that will accomodate the dimensions in the block.  If you have not done this, when you explode the block, the dimensions automatically update themselves to the current dim style.

RE: exploding causes dimension to go all over?

I agree with the UCS theory.
Try changing to Top View or Front View before inserting the block.  Try making UCSFOLLOW 1 and then UCS WORLD then insert the block.  Let us know!!

Mmmm....I dont think it has anything to do with dimstyles (i tried that for kicks and it didnt seem to make any difference).  Even if i open the original file and try to explode/burst/flatten it, it still skews all over. UCS change didnt make a difference either unfortunately.  Thanks for suggestions though.  Im sure ill find something eventually.

RE: exploding causes dimension to go all over?

The original block was probably defined
with a particular dim style setting.
Unless you know how it was defined originally
I do not see an out for you.
When you explode the block and try to change
the definition of the dimension I think
it would show its parameter is the dialogue
box.  I would definitely redefine the original
block with your general dimension styles included
so that you can enter the block in your other
new drawings without the hassle.

RE: exploding causes dimension to go all over?

I have had this happen several times with drawings that were actually made in CadKey and then "converted" to AutoCAD.
