Underground nitrogen and co2 piping

Underground nitrogen and co2 piping

(OP)
Hi All,

I have a client who is insisting on underground piping to route the nitrogen and co2 piping from the tank farm to process area. I am concerned about corrosion. Any pointers?

Thanks

RE: Underground nitrogen and co2 piping

What about the "yellow jacket" coated piping the gas companies use?

RE: Underground nitrogen and co2 piping

You will need a coating for the pipe as the principal anti-corrosion measure.  The specific coating will be the subject of another discussion.  You will also have to account for the effect on the CP system, assuming one is in operation for the tank farm, as the piping will constitute extra current drain if it is electrically continuous with a protected structure.

Thanks Steve and TBP,

The piping is copper for the nitrogen pipe and SS for CO2 pipe. If I enclose/ encapsulate the two pipes in a larger corrosion resistant PVC/ plastic pipe or in a closed underground concrete trench that have elctrical conduits running in the same trench. Would I still need to provide cathodic protection to the two pipes. Although I am not sure it is the cheapest way to do so.

Look forward to your inputs.

Thanks again
