Grease Code
Grease Code
(OP)
I am comparing two bearings from different manufacturers, both with the same part number, the only difference is the grease code, one has fs464 the other fs428. I have done all the normal google searches but had no luck. Does anybody know the differnce? or alternatively, does anybody know of a database of grease numbers and their properties?
Cheers,

RE: Grease Code
for the spec on these greases.
Could be a phone call away.
It would be nice to have a data base
but it would be quite lengthy as it
would include oils as well as other
industrial applications.
I often used mil spec numbers for a
particular grease and then used the
QPL to see the other products offered
by other companies. I have not checked
with McMaster Carr to see if they list
greases but it too is an invaluable tool.
RE: Grease Code
I have Mil spec numbers, which part of the number details the grease code? Is there a database i could compare these grease's?
McMaster Carr sitting is sitting on my desk, FS464 or FS428 are not mentioned in any detail.
Thanks,

RE: Grease Code
ie European or Domestic. If you find the
manufacturer, they should be able to give
you the specifics. The military numbers
just give you guidelines for why or how
the grease it to be used. The QPLs give
you the latest qualified manufacturers
of that specific military spec.
Timken test many greases for different
companies. Maybe it would help to talk
to someone in the research department and
not a sales rep or just a technical rep.
