sw bom (2005 3.1) sever link
sw bom (2005 3.1) sever link
(OP)
I have a sw bom that will not let me double click and enter text to sever a link. I added the row as a non updating item with (?) 2003 sp03.
Each time I double click in the qty cell, sw allows me to use the note propety mgr to change the text, then as it leaves the note mgr the value reverts.
Anyone have a workaround?
Anyone else seen this?
I don't really want to replace the bom and have to add the non updating items.
thanks,
dsgnr1

When double clicking the cell, do you get the "This cell value is parametrically linked ... blah blah blah, ... Continue editing the cell?" warning?

RE: sw bom (2005 3.1) sever link
I started practicing the art of geometry-less part management after I read one of your posts several months back. The file was created while I was in transition.
Might be a good time to change it.
On initialization of the note manager (double click the cell) I did get the "you are about to sever the link" warning.
I am going to try the suggestion that jksolid has posed.
If that works, I'm going to leave it. If it proves that the bill doesn't update anything, then I cannot leave the file in that condition. (21:41...what time zone are you?)
When I saw the result of a manually placed item in a bom at first, I thought that it could be a favorable thing for items like wire kits, harnesses, etc. that I don't necessarily have to show. (mostly all large power equip.)
I'm feelin' the pain now.
jksolid,
thanks for your suggestion.

RE: sw bom (2005 3.1) sever link
turns out that un-checking AUTO UPDATE in detailing doesn't help. (solidworks table type bom)
I am going the route of featurless parts.
(will enter into tool box so that it doesn't pdm)
No submission for enhancement necessary.
Just won't try to manage a "not shown" item like this again, and would not recommend trying. May be o.k. for a excel type bill.
(I'm getting visions of multi configured featureless parts that foot the bill for many "not shown" items =))
Thanks to all who submit answers and solutions.
