I've noticed Wikipedia being mentioned several times here on the boards but I've also notice that the engineering information on Wikipedia is abysmally poor.

It might be a good place for people to start practicing their language and grammar skills.

The basic things I have noticed are that there is no section for structural engineering, the concrete article doesn't mention reinforced concrete.

Maybe other people have spotted other big gaps for people here to fill in? Maybe people here might like to work on articles by themselves or together.

RE: Wikipedia

Good idea - I have thought along similar lines.

Cory

Please see FAQ731-376 for tips on how to make the best use of Eng-Tips Fora.

RE: Wikipedia

I dont know if it is quite that bad. There is a structural engineering section, and the concrete section has a link to a seperate RC section.

There is actually you're right, but it's not listed on this page
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Engineering
which is what I was going off.

I might make it my weekend project to link some of the articles that have been written back to that page.

Alot of articles could use a brief note outlining the design process - a list of factors considered and what aspects of the design they affect.
For example in the bridge article, there is a long list of types of bridges but no indication why an engineer would choose a particular type.

Please check the FAQ section regarding "separate".

Buy a dictionary, keep it nearby and USE it. Webster's New World Dictionary of American English is recommended, and Webster's Collegiate Dictionary.

RE: Wikipedia

Something a mentor taught me when I was just starting out on the board - there's a rat in separate.

one of my bosses passwords for some program is seperate, drives me mad when I've to use it, I just want to correct the mistake.
