Miniature parts and tools

Miniature parts and tools

I am designing a model Hawker Hurricane. Having trouble finding parts and tools for the landing gear.  I need 1/8 square steel tube and a #2-56 ldft hand tap and die. Where can I find these beasts?

RE: Miniature parts and tools

McMaster-Carr has brass square tubes that small.  If it has to be steel I guess you could make one out of shim stock.

Try some model locomotive & steam engine guys. They're always looking for tiny and/or odd material and tools, and can probably point you in the right direction. I used to have a link to a site, but I can't find it now.

Thanks, all you nice people! But what about the left hand tap and die?

RE: Miniature parts and tools

Left hand tap & die: depends where you are. If you are in the UK then try A J Reeves & Co., model engineers in Birmingham. If they haven't got them, they might point you in the right direction.
Not sure if they have a website

RE: Miniature parts and tools

Just checked: AJ reeves are at

http://www.ajreeves.com/

Seeing as they have dragged themselves into this century by getting a web site, they may even have heard of exporting (if you aren't in the UK)

I've always found them very good for model engineering stuff.

Good luck
