3D spline to represent wire

3D spline to represent wire

3D spline to represent wire

(OP)
In Pro, I used to be able to create a curve between 2 points and then make it tangent to axes running through the points.  I could then use this curve to make a 3D, swept feature to represent a wire or a pipe coming from a connector.

The 3D Sketch feature in SW looks like it could be used for the same purpose but I can't get the either end point to be tangent to an axis.

Can this be done?

RE: 3D spline to represent wire

I've had trouble with this in the past as well.  I simple work around is to place another sketch point very close (~.05in) to the starting/ending point.

RE: 3D spline to represent wire

I have done this by making a 2D sketch at the termination and making the 3D curve to be tangent or normal to the sketch and points.

RE: 3D spline to represent wire

I think the problem might be getting the spline to recognize the axis as something it can use for tangency.

Try adding a couple construction lines constrained collinear with the axes, and endpoints coincident or merged with the spline.  Then constrain spline tangent to the construction lines.

Thanks MadMango.  I tried it with the points and it worked. Not crazy about all the reference features but it looks good.

Hey TheTick!  That works the way I wanted it.

RE: 3D spline to represent wire

Is this "problem" solved with the introduction of curves in a 3D sketch?

RE: 3D spline to represent wire

Oops ... For SW2006 that is!

RE: 3D spline to represent wire

I believe 2006 solves this with control polygons when using a spline.
