MIgration from 2D to Solidworks

MIgration from 2D to Solidworks

(OP)
I am working on a plan to migrate from our current to 2D CAD system to Solidworks. I imagine that the people on here have a wealth of information on the do's and dont's. I realise every company is different so thats a given. Also, does anyone know of any online resources that might help. Thanks.

RE: MIgration from 2D to Solidworks

In the help of SW there is a "Moving from AutoCAD" SW Online tutorial and SW has it's own Online tutorial in the same location. You should go through both of them to get a feel for  SW before you use it.

FYI - Forget your old CAD before you try to learn SW... I know that's a tall order, but you almost have too.

Thanks Scott,

I'd consider myself a fairly advanced Solid Works user. What I have been asked to do is put a plan together to bring everyone else from their current 2D status up to being proficient in Solidworks to the extent that it is 'their' tool of choice. Of course, this must also be achieved with little or no interuption to the daily life of the company

Have a look at FAQ559-838

One thing I'd stress in that, would be item #5 in the "checklist".  Get your users comfortable in using the new software by having them model common components.  Once they get better at being able to model things they can see and touch, they'll be better prepared to turn what their mind's eye can invision and turn that into usable models.
