(OP)
Recently we have been asked by our clients to certify repair of Fire rated doors A-60 at offshore platforms. The repair involves removal of lower bottom portion of (750mm) of door .It would be done by cutting metal sheet on door panel and replaced by new sheet. If required insulation material of same density may be replaced in the repaired area.
I request all experts to advise
1.Does this repair will affect fire rated integrity of the door?
2.Can we say that since replacement is one to one basis door after repair can be certified to its original specifications i.e A-60 rating.
3. What precautions should be taken if we allow this repair.New sheet being put should be welded using low heat input methods(TIG) or should be fixed using pop rivets.Which is better to accept ?
4.Any more inputs on this topic from our friends is appreciable. Some may say that this kind of repair should not be allowed. But if we have to allow with positive mind what precautions are must so that repair is done without affecting integrity.
