Drawing Boots Me on Open - Lite2000
Drawing Boots Me on Open - Lite2000
(OP)
I've been having this problem with this set of drawings i'm working. when i open it the drawing will start to load but then boot me out half way thru and shut down CAD with no error messages or pop-up. they drawing cannot be recovered and will boot out after recovery is done running. so then i have to re-name a backup or autosave to get the drawing again, losing sometimes lots of work. it does it to multiple drawings in this set, but not all the time. i can get in and out of a drawing a dozen times with no problem, then all the sudden when i go to open it again does the same thing. only in this job does it happen. thought maybe it was a virus but a scan picked up nothing. it happens to other people also, not just my computer, but it seems only after i've opened a drawing. has anyone ever had this problem before?

As a one-time thing- a coworker had this happen. He was able to insert the drawing into another drawing as a block or xref (I forget which) and then explode it. Seems like he lost some block definitions or something of the sort, but salvaged most of his work.
For a good while, I used a computer that would just crash about once a day. I learned to hit that save button about every 5 minutes. You may need to do the same thing, or save it as 2 different drawings alternating however frequently you think of it.
You might try reloading AutoCAD, as well.

As JStephen says above, insert the drawing into a blank drawing and work off of that. And don't use the Lengthen command.
