Detail and Assembly Drawing Naming Convention
Detail and Assembly Drawing Naming Convention
(OP)
Is there an ANSI standard that describes the proper way to name a part or assembly? I can't remember if it was a company specific guildline that I'm recalling or something ANSI put out. If it is in ANSI, would someone please post it here for me?
Thanks.
btw, it went something like this... A light fixture used in the engineering area would be called, "FIXTURE, LIGHT-ENGINEERING" and an assembly would be either an ASSY or ASSY OF, depending on whether or not it was inseperable or not. To give another example, a mounting fixture would be called, "FIXTURE, MOUNTING". Basically noun first, followed by a modifier (e.g. what kind of fixture?) followed by a dash and another modifier if neccessary. Any of this sound familiar to anyone?
Thanks.

Section 5, Drawing Titles
To paraphrase, titles should be brief, consist of a noun or noun phrase. Modifiers can be used, either a word or phrase. Don't use "or" or "for".
Some examples:
Preferred-
CIRCUIT CARD ASSEMBLY
PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD
Not Preferred-
ASSEMBLY, CIRCUIT CARD
BOARD, PRINTED CIRCUIT
It's best to purchase this standard from ASME. Also see forum1103

Also, don't name it what it's for, name it what it is.

I'll have to find a copy of that one.

Then again we don't do business with the DOD or Aerospace or Automotive entities.
