Under water insulation

Under water insulation

(OP)
I need to insulate a steel tank that will contain hot gas and be immersed in water and be sujected to pressures of about 500 psi.  I would like suggestions of what materials would be suitable for insulating the vessel.

Thank you

A vacuum jacket!

How about a spray on poly-isocyanate and then a rubberized coating.  I am not sure how it will stand up to the pressure though.  I have to ask would it not be cheaper and easier to re-heat the gas when it is again on land?

How hot in degrees Celsius? What volume? What gas? Salt or sweet water? Interfacing electronics to the tank? Questions Questions Questions  Supply facts please

RE: Under water insulation

The gas is NO2 and dissociated NO2 (O2 and N2) at about 240 C.  The outside of the steel shell will be a fair amount cooler - in tests run so far is has not been too hot to touch.  The volume will be 15 L and the tank will be immersed in sea water.  NO electronics will need to me interfaced to the tank - just a gas supply but all electronics will be elsewhere.

Thanks

What stops the O2 at 240C from attacking the Carbon Steel?
Since it is so small I guess I would definately go with the vacuum jacket.  It is the easiest, and you can guarantee that it will work.
