Steam Turbine Atmosphere Relief Diaphragm Spec.

Steam Turbine Atmosphere Relief Diaphragm Spec.

Steam Turbine Atmosphere Relief Diaphragm Spec.

(OP)
We have had several failures of rupture discs on our steam turbine. The disc is currently aluminum. We are going to try anodized aluminum. The problem seems to be corrosion for some reason.
Another problem is the between the rupture diaphragm is a rubber disc. It always seems to be breaking down as well. I think an improved material would be EPDM. Is there any concerns with this.
Our turbine back end temp is about 130 deg F at less than 8"H2O absolute. We use Cortrol, Optisperse, and Steamate for our internal water treatment.

RE: Steam Turbine Atmosphere Relief Diaphragm Spec.

Did you perform metallurgical Failure Analysis of the failed discs? Relief diaphragms are built to fail at a given pressure is not it? Are they failing at a lower than designed pressure?
