Moulding Ultem 1000

Moulding Ultem 1000

Moulding Ultem 1000

(OP)
I have a tool to quote. It is basically a 22mm o/d tube , 6mm long with a flange to eject on at the bottom. It has a 1mm w/t. The problem I have is that it has a 0.4mm deep undercut ring all around the i/d. It is to be made from PEI - Ultem 1000. I dont have much experience with this and was wondering if anyone can advise me if it can just be "bumped" off the tool when ejected via a stripper plate.
Also would a tab gate be suitable for this material. Thanks

RE: Moulding Ultem 1000

In Nylon or Delrin, you could 'bump' an undercut with a quarter round cross section and a modest depth.

I don't think you can do it in Ultem or anything else that qualifies as an 'engineering resin', unless it also has at least one radial slot, or the customer will tolerate a radial crack in the part.

You need to seek advice from the person who has to get good parts out of the tool.

I agree Ultem will be dificult to jump off any but the smallest undercut.
