Has anyone some data on the geotechnical  properties of   fly  ash  derived from  a power station .Have  done  a technical  search  via  google  but  not located  too much  info.  other than  good data on geochemistry .Wanting to   determine  cohesion, friction angle  and  strength  parameters  such  to  allow me  to  determine  the  cover of fly  ash  that  could  assist in rehabilitation of  a sealed  tailings  dam  area .

Plan is establish if fly ash option is  realistic & HOW  DOES STABILITY of the surface of the subject dam  (COAL SLIMES) improve  if  fly ash  cover is applied (say  2m  of  cover required to improve  mine machinery trafficking)

RE: fly ash geotechnical properties

I have never worked with fly ash.  I know that bottom ash is a buildable material; consisting of sand-grain sized particles  of silica.  If installed properly, bottom ash is rock-hard and actually difficult to remove, even with an excavator.  I have some experience in installing it, if there are any questions.

I know that fly ash is a colloid-sized particle used in the creation of concrete.  I don't know that it could be used effectively as structural fill.

Best of luck.
