Welding 316SS tubing to Medium P ENi Plated C22 fitting

Welding 316SS tubing to Medium P ENi Plated C22 fitting

(OP)
I am looking at an application where a medium phosphorus electroless nickel plated C22 fitting will be welded to a 316SS tube.  I have joined these metals using GTAW with visual success but am concerned with what is going on at the microstructure of the weld.  Does anyone know of any concerns with welding these materials or of any applications where this is being done?

Thanks for any input.

RE: Welding 316SS tubing to Medium P ENi Plated C22 fitting

You need to do some metallography and corrosion testing of welds.  They may be fine, but the P may be forming a lot of intermetallics that could be messing up your properties.
Do you care about mechanical properties?
Why is the fitting plated?  Can it be striped before welding?
Are you using a filler or is this autogenous?

Corrosion, every where, all the time.
Manage it or it will manage you.

Thanks Ed,

Ni plating is for protection against demineralized water @ no more than 190F and 80psi.  The weld must meet these requirements as well.  Autogenous via orbital is what we are currently looking at but I believe degredation of the Ni plating on the interior of the joint is going to be a problem.
