Intercooler efficiency maps

Intercooler efficiency maps

Intercooler efficiency maps

(OP)
Can anyone post me a link that shows some typical intercooler efficiency maps?  I'd like to see how manufacturers normally present this information: tabulated against mass flow, volume flow, other??  Similarly, how is the pressure drop usually quantified?

Any info or pointers greatly received.

RE: Intercooler efficiency maps

I don't have a link, but an old Spearco catalog I have plots Efficiency on the left y-axis, Outlet Flow in CFM on the x-axis.  There are multiple efficiency lines for various vehicle speeds, and one pressure drop line (right y-axis).  The data all assumes a set boost pressure (10 psi).

RE: Intercooler efficiency maps

Hello Sompting:

You'll want to sound like an expert, so drop the term "efficiency".  Use the term "effectiveness".  I'm sure you will see why if you consider that the intercooler doesn't really do any work.

My advice is to check out the Turbonetics web site, www.turboneticsinc.com

If this is not sufficient, call Turbonetics, ask for Johnny, and ask him to mail you a copy of the paper written a number of years ago by George Spears.  The paper is very helpful.

turbomotor,

Thanks for the correction - much appreciated.  My goal is not to "sound like an expert", more to implement something that uses the same language that my customers do.

RE: Intercooler efficiency maps

Good point.  Sorry if I sounded like an uptight engineer.
