How many hours?

How many hours?

How many hours?

(OP)
Hi there,

Recently somebody told me his opinion about how many hours are necessary to create a specific 3D model in CATIA.

So, how many hours (approximately, of course) do you think its necessary to create a 3D model of a stringer with 30 joggles, using separately sweeps on each guiding curve, inserting few dittos (lets say about 20), marking with point and vectors few rivets (about 30), and doing the run outs - in v4 and also in v5 (using instances, of course, instead of dittos).

Fernando

RE: How many hours?

It all depends upon your skill, obviously.  V4 is pretty straightforward, it's going to cost you the same number of hours every time.  For a part of that complexity, I would give a rough guestimate of 4-8 hours (for the solid only) assuming everything about that stringer is known (including your "best practices" for modeling stringers).

In V5, the first stringer will probably take about the same amount of time as V4.  However, the second and later stringers will take a small fraction of that time.  You simply copy the original geometry, and replace the parents to get a new stringer in new location.  That is the beauty of V5, you can re-use your work by making templates.

The other thing that can help you in V5 is the ability to use PowerCopies and UserFeatures. If you already have some of these set up for you, that can significantly decrease your effort.

Hi,

Thanks for your answer. I'm agree with you regarding the power of v5.

Using power copy and design table for profiles you can model a stringer in few minutes but only if you don't have many joggles to do (of course, without any holes or rivets).

I know this because I've already done it.

Fernando
