Anyone having trouble updating "Help" files
Anyone having trouble updating "Help" files
(OP)
I just upgraded from 2005 SP2.0 to 4.0, and solidworks is okay, but when I replaced the old help files with the new ones, it can't hyperlink to them. None of my browser settings have changed, and I've done the extraction a couple of times. I have a call into tech support, but they aren't always timely in response. This is the first time I've ever had trouble updating the Help files in 8 years!!
Thanks,
John

RE: Anyone having trouble updating "Help" files
I do not know if this will fix your problem, but worth a look see. See thread thread559-124500
You maybe doing this already.
I searched for the files that were unzipped from “swHelpEnglish.zip”. They were in “C:\Program Files\SolidWorks”.
I did an unzip and they all went to the right places. Some went to C:\Program Files\SolidWorks\lang\english. I did a yes to replace.
“C:\Program Files\SolidWorks” is a better directory to unzip too.

If so then you be having a security issue with your help.
1) Go to this location:C:\program Files\Solidworks\Lang\English
2) Find sldworks.chm
3) Double click
4) You should get a security warning
5) Uncheck the option so that you allow the help to work
6) You should be good when you launch the help from SW now.
If the above don't, it's a your discretion on whether or not to uninstall the hotfix, since after all it's a HOTfix for security reasons, that's why MS put it out there. It just so happens to have a conflict with SW SP4.0 help files

Also had a problem with 3.1 help files too.
I'm all set though.

RE: Anyone having trouble updating "Help" files
If you don't uninstall the hotfix, you have to activate each compiled help file, and there is quite a few. This going to have to be done after every update!! There's got to be another way, besides uninstalling the update. It seems we just need to get MS to recognize the certificate from Solidworks, mine says "Unknown", so maybe it's something on Solidworks side when they create the files to add their certificate ident?
