(Co)ordinate Dimensions

(Co)ordinate Dimensions

Hello all,

I have a question about a sketch dimension setup.  We are trying to use ordinate dimensions, but 2D instead of 1D.  For instance, within the sketch, set up an origin point (0,0) and then pick other points that will be dimensioned as their values: (-1,2) or (2.256,3.000) etc.

Is this possible?  If so please let me know where I should be looking to perform this feat.

RE: (Co)ordinate Dimensions

Very easy; after drawing sketch, choose the "smart dimension" tool > right-click > more dimensions > ordinate.  You can also customize and drop the ordinate tool onto your sketch toolbar.

Thank you, but that is not what I want.  The ordinate dimension tool defaults to the horizontal or vertical ordinates.  I want Both X and Y coordinates to show up as one dimension, perferably in common (x,y) format.

If this is not possible that's fine, but I would like confirmation.

RE: (Co)ordinate Dimensions

I have not found a way to do this. Would be a good enhancement request to SW.

Jabberwocky ... If you use the Hole Table (in a drawing) that, in effect, is what you will get.

Thanks guys for the finality of your answers.

CorBlimeyLimey - I think you're right, but I'm unfortunately not dealing with holes in this instance.

Thanks again.

RE: (Co)ordinate Dimensions

There's no inherent functionality in Solidworks sketches to do this.  I think the closest thing you'll get is (as CorBlimeyLImey pointed out) hole tables for holes, or you could use ordinate dimensions in combination with a design table for anything else.

RE: (Co)ordinate Dimensions

I looked in the API help and it looks like you can get the X and Y Parameters. If you can get the parameters using API, then you should be able to place them into a location, like a customer property or something like that.
